• Adopting a cat from us costs 2400kr per cat.
• We adopt our cats to live in or close to Malmö.
• All of our cats will be adopted out as indoor cats (with the possibility to go out in a harness if the cat enjoys it).
• All cats have been to the vet for a health check up before adoption.
• Cats are expected to stay insured and have yearly vaccinations after adoption.

How does it work?

The cats who has the status ”claimed” have already found their forever homes and wont take any more applications. Cats with the status adoptable are open for applications.

Once you have found a cat that suits you, you can submit an adoption application using the form below. We will contact you as soon as possible (within about 2 weeks) to schedule a visit to the cat shelter if any of our cats match your wishes.

Please note that it can sometimes take longer to receive a response if the cat you are interested in has received many applications. Please keep an eye on your spam folder as our response can sometimes end up there.

Preperation
During your visits to the cat shelter, you will meet the cat(s) you are interested in and we will ask you questions about your living situation. If you have a balcony, it should be netted/glazed from floor to ceiling before the cat moves in. Please prepare this in advance to speed up the cat's moving day.

Do you need help to get your balcony netted? We recommend Samuel that has created many safe balconies for our adopters.

Home visit
When you have claimed a cat, we always make a home visit to the potential adopter before the move. We only adopt our cats as indoor cats to new homes in Malmö and the surrounding area. During the home visit, we go over practical things such as insurance, food, whether the cat has special needs and cat proofing the home.

After the home visit is approved, we would like the new home to visit the cat shelter a few times to get to know the cat better and think it through so that this is really the right cat for the family and that it is the right family for the cat. If everything feels good for the adopter and also for us, a pick-up date will be booked at the cat shelter.

Picking up the cat
When it is time to pick up your cat, the adopters will bring a carrier (atlas carrier), 2 straps, and a blanket to put over the carrier during transport. You will receive a small starter package with all the cat's papers and vaccination cards, some toys and food that the cat is used to. An adoption contract is signed between the association Katthjälpen in Malmö and the adopter, lastly the adoption fee is paid on site with Swish or cash.

Vet visits
Before the move all of our cats have been to the vet for a simple health check up, where they listen to the heart and lungs and check the cat's teeth. Cats with known damage to their teeth are treated by the shelter before adoption.

Adult cats over 6 months:

• Sterilised
• Vaccinated
• ID-chipped
• Dewormed and treated for other pests

Kittens under 6 months:

• Double vaccinated
• Dewormed and treated for other pests
• ID-chipped
• (Sterilisation will be done by the adopters once the kitten is around 6 month of age.)
