Volunteer at Katthjälpen
The cat shelter is home to around 20-30 cats who need companionship and care 365 days a year. Here, the cats are given food and shelter and a chance to rehabilitate at their own pace. Many of the cats that come to us have been homeless their entire lives and have had little or no contact with people and therefore need time and security to feel comfortable around people. Watching them blossom and following the development of our socialization is one of the best things about being a volunteer.
What does a volunteer do?
As a volunteer at the cat shelter, you need to be at least 18 years old and you must be able to take at least one shift per week. This means at least four hours, either a morning or an afternoon. This is so that the cats have continuity and that together we cover all the shifts of the week. At the beginning, you go together with other volunteers who teach you the routines at the cat shelter. During the shifts, you make sure that all the cats get food, any medicine and other care, empty the litter boxes and carry out the day's cleaning. You also learn our routines regarding infection control. There is also time for socialization, mischief and play during a shift.
As a volunteer, you can help with much more than just taking care of the cat shelter. Are you good at writing, taking photos or planning events? If you have your own ideas for what you would like to help with, don't hesitate to get in touch.
A prerequisite for being a volunteer with us is that you share our values of raising the status of cats, by, among other things, neutering, vaccinating, ID-marking and registering the cats.
We need help driving cats to and from vet visits
With a full cat shelter, there will also be many trips to the vet for examinations, neutering, vaccinations, etc. We are always looking for volunteers who have access to a car to help with the logistics.
